ROXBURY, NJ - The COVID-19 pandemic is making it a bit more difficult, but it's not stopping the Roxbury Rotary Club from selling fruits and pies, a Thanksgiving season tradition.
The annual Roxbury Rotary Club Fruit and Pie sale is a big fundraiser for the club. Pies and fruit are ordered in advance and handed out just in time for Thanksgiving. This year's distribution will take place Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Roxbury Recreation Center at 72 Eyland Ave. in Succasunna (Horseshoe Lake Park).
This year, the Rotarians are also accepting orders on behalf of struggling Roxbury families. These can be placed by anyone who wants to donate pies or fruit in their names.
"This is probably the 30th annual fruit and pie sale my Rotary Club has run," said Rotarian Steve Alford. "The money raised from this event is critical to help support all the people in town and organizations that rely on our support"
Alford said the pandemic has made this year difficult for the club's fundraising and community efforts. "This year, due to COVID, has been particularly hard," he said. "It's harder to be able to hold COVID-safe fundraisers, and we have more people than normal that need our help."
All fruit orders must received by Oct. 30 and all pie orders by Nov. 15.
