PARKLAND, FL- Creative learning is everywhere during the 2020-2021 school year, and it's particularly challenging for Stoneman Douglas High School's Eagle Regiment. The marching band's musical and organizational training is difficult in this season, and the MSD PTSO stepped in to help out.
Band director Stephen Rivero reached out to the MSD PTSO to help the Stoneman Douglas Eagle Regiment purchase a SmartMusic subscription for all music students.
SmartMusic is a web-based suite of music education tools that keeps students engaged during remote learning as well as classroom instruction. It has a proven positive effect on student outcomes. SmartMusic also allows music students to build not only music theory and practical music skills, but will provide them with non-academic benefits including promoting self-esteem, motivation, cultural exposure, creativity, improved emotional expression as well as social harmony and appreciation of diversity.
The MSD PTSO was able to help the school and individual teachers that have applied for academic funding. The students plan to use the subscription to keep engaged with music and continue the effort towards a successful year.
