Street Fairs – Another Reason to Join the GWACC

August 31, 2013 at 3:11 PM

Festifall street fair is ringing in the new season in Downtown Westfield, NJ, on Sunday, September 22, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (rain or shine). Please plan on joining in the fun and festivities!

Our chamber of commerce is fortunate to boast a membership total of over 300. That is a respectable number; many chambers would be jealous. After all, we do support businesses in 5 towns, all around the Westfield area.  Chamber membership is voluntary and represents a community of businesspeople who want to help themselves, and others in the area, succeed through fostering relationships.

A portion of our members belong, at least in part, due to the deep street fair discount that we offer our members.  The discounts cost justify membership dues, in most cases.  If that were where the benefits of membership in the Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce (GWACC) ended… well, I guess it would still be worth it.  But, proudly, that’s just the tip of the iceberg!  See our website, www.westfieldareachamber.com, for a list of other reasons to support this larger business community.

Spring Fling, and Festifall, are long-time traditions in downtown Westfield, NJ. At their inception, our chamber staff and volunteers handled the whole thing, soup to nuts. But, at some point, the popularity of the fairs made the size of the crowds, and the number of booths, plus all the logistics that go along with those issues, too much for a tiny organization to manage. The fairs are handled by experts, a company with whom the GWACC has a longtime relationship, which liberates chamber leadership to “enjoy the ride” a bit from our information tent’s prime location at the intersection of East Broad and Elm Street.

Our two street fairs each year, Festifall and Spring Fling, are intended to serve many purposes simultaneously.  Certainly, a primary objective is to allow businesses, many of which do not have “bricks and mortar” storefront presence, to have access to customers; it’s a distribution channel. No less important is the fact that the fairs are anticipated by residents as a great family day outside, enjoying the usually perfect weather outdoors. Lastly, the fairs provide the GWACC a revenue stream from which to realize profits which go directly back into our greater community by allowing operating costs to be met for efforts that mainly focus on marketing members. Check us out on Facebook and Twitter!  GWACC_NJ

When people move to a municipality, they often include a call to the local chamber of commerce as a first step of investigation. They value the referrals that chambers make, often as much as those from their realtor. Our Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce is a chamber that is all about relationships. We know each other. We like each other. We want each other to succeed. No matter what street you live on, or in which of the 5 towns that we support that you live… let’s all work together to HAVE FUN and IMPROVE OUR LOCAL ECONOMY!!

Our office is located on the top floor of the Bank of America building at 173 Elm Street in Westfield. Our regular office hours are T-Th, 10:30 a.m. 4 p.m., and M, F, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feel free to leave a message anytime, we’ll always return your call within 24 hours, 908-233-3021.

For over 60 years, the Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce (GWACC) has been connecting commerce and community. The GWACC promotes the economic prosperity of businesses primarily in Fanwood, Garwood, Mountainside, Scotch Plains and Westfield. It is the largest association of businesses and nonprofits in our area. Members include business owners, professionals, managers and operators. Membership cultivates the opportunity to build relationships, partner, make referrals, increase business, attend lunch and learns, and support the community.

The GWACC hosts three street fairs each year, two in Downtown Westfield and one in the center of Garwood. The chamber also operates the Westfield Farmers Market and runs the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) program. The GWACC monthly networking events — one in the early morning and one directly after work — serve as an opportunity for current members to network with each other regularly and for prospective members to come see what we're all about. In addition, the Professional Women’s Committee organizes networking events specifically tailored to women business owners, professionals, and entrepreneurs.

For more information about the GWACC, visit www.gwaccnj.com. You can also call the office at 908-233-3021 Monday through Friday between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Our office is located on the 3rd floor of the Bank of America building at 173 Elm Street, Westfield, NJ 07090.
