Fabricland, the legendary Central Jersey fabric retailer, moved to a new store nine months ago after 57 years at their previous location. They now occupy a beautiful 9000 square foot showroom in Green Brook, only 3.2 miles west of their old store.
With summer upon us, Fabricland is pleased to announce their 14th annual Sewing Summer camp. There are nine weeks of great classes in sewing fashion, accessories, and bedroom decor for kids ages 9-18 and skill levels from beginner to advanced. Morning and afternoon classes are offered ranging from one to five sessions. If attending the morning and afternoon sessions, kids can bring lunch and stay at the store for the break.
Children can start at the beginner level with Begin to Sew or the Kids & Teens Can Sew Workshop and then move on to Sewing 101, PJ Pants or Pillow Party. They can keep building their skills with higher level classes like Just Beachy,Summer Fun Dress, and Sew Summer Sundress.
There is also a beginner quilt class called Get Quilty whichintroduces kids to quilt piecing and quilt construction. For those interested in the art of hand sewing there is a hand sewing and embroidery class. There are fun accessories classes too: Summer Accessories, School Accessories and the Backpack class are super cute and functional. For the advanced students, classes include Sew Your Own and Introduction to Pattern Drafting.
Safety is a high priority. Fabricland’s highly skilled instructors will teach students how to safely use sewing machines and irons. They teach sewing, measuring and cutting skills along with how to follow pattern directions, how to handle fabrics, and make sure the clothing they make fits.
There is no need to bring your own sewing machine, Fabricland provides state-of-the art Bernina sewing machines in the classroom for each student.
Classroom time over the summer is still allotted for adult sewing classes, so don’t feel left out. The complete Fabricland class schedule for children and adults is available at fabricland.com or a printed version is in the store. If these schedules don’t work for you, private lessons are available. Private lessons could be for basic or advanced instruction, help with a project or to teach you how to use your sewing machine – even if you did not purchase it at Fabricland.
Class sizes are small so register early at fabricland.com, call 908-755-4700 or in person at 270 US Highway 22 in Green Brook.
