SPARTA, NJ-Community members continue to find ways to support the Friends of Sal fundraising efforts. Most recently announced by yoga instructor Dana Calandrillo is Summer Solstice Sun Salutation Series. Coinciding with the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, the event is scheduled to take place on June 21 beginning at 5 p.m. at Beach 1 by the boardwalk.
Every year on Solstice, yoga practitioners all around the world gather to celebrate. Sun Salutations is a series of poses that are accessible for all levels of yoga students. This celebration will be 108 repetitions of the practice; the number 108 has significance to the yogic community.
There will be a series of local yoga instructors taking turns leading the group.
Calandrillo said, “I had been planning this event prior to the accident with the intention of supporting a local cause. Sadly when I heard about the loss of man adored by many who left behind a wife and family I could not imagine a more important one then this.”
Early in the morning of May 18, 2014, Sparta resident Salvatore “Sal” Sarrecchia and his wife Nicole were involved in an automobile accident on I-287 in Bernards Twp that appears to have been initiated by a drunk driver. As a result of the accident, Sal passed away leaving his wife Nicole seriously injured and their four children without a father. A group of family friends and many Sparta service organizations and individuals have joined forces to assist the Sarrecchia family in this time of need.
