Summit Boys LAX Warms Up for State Tourney with 12-5 Win Over Ridgewood
SUMMIT, NJ - Before beginning state tournament play, the Summit High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team took on a quality Ridgewood side, ranked 18th in New Jersey by laxpower.com.
Continuing to play their best lacrosse against skilled opponents, and at the right time of the season, Head Coach Jim Davidson's Hilltoppers scored 12 of the games first 13 goals as they powered past the Maroons 12-5 at Investors Bank Field.
Connor Murphy, Matt Fischetti, and James Strabley each had two goals for Summit, and goalie Sam Bebout was again lights-out in the Summit goal, making 16 saves.
Jarrett Ross gave the Hilltoppers the lead, scoring unassisted at the crease. John Cordrey found Murphy, and it was 2-0 at the end of the first quarter.
After Riley Flynn scored, Ridgewood scored on a man-up advantage to cut Summit's lead to 3-1, but Fischetti fed Strabley, and Max Graeb scored unassisted to put the Hilltoppers ahead 5-1 at the half.
Summit put the hammer down in the third quarter, outscoring their opponents 6-0 and putting the game away. Murphy was on target off a Fischetti pass to make it 6-1, and FOGO Brian Hadley scored eight seconds later, winning the face-off clean and rumbling down the left side before finishing.
Two Fischetti goals. the latter coming on a textbook fast break, sandwiched a Chris Zanelli tally to make it 10-1, and then defender Andrew Helmer scooped up a loose ball off at midfield at raced in to score. The quarter ended with Summit pulling away and leading 11-1.
Andrew Chase found Strabley in the fourth quarter, and the score ballooned to 12-1 before liberal substitutions and four Ridgewood goals followed.
Summit, seeded number-one, takes on Jefferson in the first round of state tournament play May 17 at Investors Bank Field. Face-off is set for 12 p.m.
