Summit Boys Varsity LAX Eases to 8-1 Win Over Sparta

April 3, 2014 at 6:31 PM

SUMMIT, NJ - After a disappointing performance and result against Chatham, the Summit High School boys varsity lacrosse team got right back in the win column, downing Sparta, 8-1, at Investors Bank Field.

While not a master class performance, Summit, now 3-1 on the season, eased to victory against a Sparta squad that repeatedly turned the ball over on offense.  Perhaps the state of the Hilltopper team right now can best be summed up by stating that, while the victory was never in doubt, the game never felt comfortable until the fourth quarter.
Summit led, 1-0, at the end of the first quarter, and 3-0 at the half, behind a goal from Jarrett Ross and two from Connor Murphy.  It was 4-0 at the end of the third, with James Strabley scoring on a fast break, but it was the final period when Summit seemed to wear down the Spartans down.

Powered by a strong game from FOGO Brian Hadley, Summit had a strong edge in possession, and while the offensive execution was not spot-on throughout the game, the goals began flowing in the final period.

Murphy completed his Hat Trick to make it 5-1, followed by goals from Chris Zanelli, Kyle Waldron, and Murphy again.  When tested, goalie Sam Bebout made the saves, surrendering just a lone goal in the third quarter.

"I thought our defense was strong, and we rode their clear well, but we are just a little off right now," said Summit Head Coach Jim Davidson.

Part of the hiccups on the offensive end can be traced to the absence of Matt Fischetti, which had caused some personnel rotational changes on offense.  Fischetti, who missed his second consecutive game with an injury, said after the game he hopes to return to the line-up Saturday, when Summit travels to West Essex for a 11 a.m. face-off.

Today’s Bond Market - Should I Stay or Should I Go?

2016’s final days left bond investors unsettled.

Just a few months ago, with the backdrop of the surprise July Brexit vote, U.S. Treasury yields hit record lows. The Federal Reserve has finally raised interest rates and is ...

Man vs. Waze

A lot of strange cars are traveling through my quiet neighborhood these days.  They are not driven by my neighbors.  Some mornings I even have trouble getting out of my driveway.

Waze.

Ever since bridge repair closed a major thoroughfare near my house, the traffic on my sleepy street has increased dramatically.  And it is not by accident that commuters have figured out ...
