SUMMIT, NJ – The Summit Downtown, Inc. (SDI) Board of Trustees has elected the following officers to the Executive Committee: Kevin Smallwood, Chairman, Smallwood Financial Group; Tony Melchionna, Vice Chairman, Salon 44; Lori Dahl, Treasurer, Coldwell Banker; and Susan C. Taylor, Esquire, Secretary.
“Our mission is to promote the downtown and our merchants as well as meet the needs of upper floor businesses, offices, and property owners,” stated Kevin Smallwood. “We also want to forge a relationship among residents, non-residents and retailers, and the best way to do that is by various promotions such as Girls’ Night Out (May 1), the Summit Farmers’ Market (May 11 – November 23), the Spring Street Fair (May 25), Sidewalk Stroll & Sales (June 26-28), the Antique/Classic Car Show (September 21), Halloween Trick or Treat (October 31) and Holiday Tree Lighting and Santa’s Arrival (December 7).”
SDI is a non-profit corporation which represents all retailers and businesses and manages the Special Improvement District. The purpose of SDI is to encourage the development and improvement of the quality of life in the business community in the downtown. It is currently governed by a 17 member Board of Trustees that is comprised of downtown retailers, downtown property owners, community residents, members of the Common Council, the Mayor, and the City Administrator.
Tax revenues are dedicated to benefit the downtown. SDI promotes the downtown and its retail/business community through its website, summitdowntown.org, Facebook, Twitter, and advertising throughout the year and sponsoring family friendly events. SDI also partners with other non-profits such as the Summit Historical Society, the Suburban Chambers of Commerce, Reeves-Reed Arboretum, Shaping Summit Together and Summit YMCA.
The Board of Trustees meets monthly the last Wednesday of every month at City Hall, at 8 a.m. in the Whitman Room, with the public invited to attend.
