Summit Girls' Basketball Drops Season Opener to Scotch Plains-Fanwood

SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit Hilltoppers girls’ basketball gave up a 4th quarter lead and lost its season opening game against Scotch Plains-Fanwood, 51-35, on Friday.

Summit made a strong start in their game against the Raiders ending the first quarter, with a 12-10 lead.

The Hilltoppers kept their lead until the second half.  Scotch Plains fought back in the 4th quarter, taking with 39-32 lead with five minutes to play, before holding on to the opening night win.

Summit returns all five starters to the floor, including junior point guard Anna Baumiester, junior Katie Chase and senior Carly Wilson.

Despite dropping the game, Summit assistant coach Rebholz came away impressed with the team.

“It was a really good game, and a nice start to the season,” Rebholz said. “Even though we lost everyone played really well.”

Summit returns to the floor on Tuesday at Cranford, while Scotch Plains-Fanwood plays Governor Livingston.
