SUMMIT, NJ - "It is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten."
Summit H.S. Hosts Sankofa Festival as Part of Black History Month Celebration
Summit High School (SHS), as part of its Black History Month celebration, will host an inaugural "Sankofa Festival" February 28. Sankofa is a phrase from the Akan language of Ghana meaning, "Go back and get it". The phrase frames the theme of the event: showing the importance of understanding your past, your history, so that you can understand who you are today.
The Festival, which will take attendees on a journey through dance, music, food, movies, and knowledge, will be held in the SHS cafeteria from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Tickets are available at SHS upon the conclusion of each school day, and also will be available at the door February 28. Admission is $5 for students, $12 for adults, and children age 5-under are free.
All proceeds will be donated to the Summit For African American Action Association (S4A) Scholarship Fund.
