SUMMIT, NJ - Beautiful day. The result? Not so much, at least that is if you are a member of Team Maroon and White.

The Summit High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team fell behind by two goals in the first 10 minutes and, despite a much stronger performance in the second half, surrendered two more goals late and fell to Cranford 4-0 on the Upper Turf Field.

Maggie Murray had a Hat Trick for the visitors.

Summit's best chance came midway through the second half as senior Sara Peñuela raced past her defender -- and then around the 'keeper -- in the right side of the Cougars' penalty area before squaring the ball to classmate and captain Keegan Mayer whose left-footed shot from five-yards out was blocked by a Cranford defender.

Summit, now 2-3-1, is right back on the pitch today, taking on Oak Knoll at the Chatham Fields. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.

Boys Rolling

Senior Owen Healey scored a first-half goal, assisted by classmate Michael Bermudez, and senior captain Jake Maslin made nine stops to earn the shutout as the Summit High School Boys Varsity Soccer Team won at Plainfield, 1-0.

The victory, the Hilltoppers third in a row, elevates the Maroon and White's record to 4-1-1 heading into a tough road tilt today at Westfield. The match is set to kick-off at 4 p.m.
