SUMMIT, NJ - Led by the all-student run 'Operation Smile' Club and its co-presidents -- seniors Claire Murdock and Kailey McGinn -- Summit High School will host its 13th annual 'Styles for Smiles' fashion show February 5, beginning at 7 p.m., at the Summit High School Cafeteria.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit Virginia Beach, VA-based nonprofit Operation Smile Incorprated, a volunteer medical service organization that provides reconstructive facial surgery -- primarily for cleft lips and palates -- to children and young adults in developing countries worldwide.
The 100-member strong Summit High School 'Operation Smile' Club entirely developes and manages the fashion show event, including the use of students as models as well as students coordinating the publicity, outfitting the models, emceeing the event and -- most importantly -- fundraising and solicitation for the accompanying silent auction.
Having raised $20,000 in 2018, the Club has established a goal to generate $22,000 this year.
Since its establishment in 1982, Operation Smile has changed the lives of tens of thousands of individuals, with countless volunteers coordinating and traveling the globe on missions, donating their time and talents to perform surgeries while other volunteers organize and participate in fundraisers so that these operations can happen. Each surgery costs $240 and leaves an impact that is priceless.
