Summit Ice Hockey Season Ends With 3-2 Loss to Morristown


MORRISTOWN, NJ – The Summit varsity ice hockey team has been eliminated from the state tournament, losing to Morristown, 3-2, on Monday at Mennen Arena.

Senior Garrett McGowan made 23 saves for the Hilltoppers. For the Colonials, Shane Brown made 19 saves on Summit’s skaters.

Morristown scored all three goals of their victory in the first period. Cole Shandlay scored the Colonials’ first goal on a giveaway at the 8:08 mark.

Summit’s Brady Nelson tied the game two minutes later, however Morristown struck big in the late in the period.

The Colonial brother duo of Cam and Jack Szary scored 13 seconds apart in the final minute to quickly take the momentum.

With assists from Liam McLaughlin and Chris Zanelli, Nelson scored the Hilltoppers’ second goal on a snap shot in the second period.

After pulling within one goal, Summit was stonewalled for the final 25 minutes, seeing their season come to a dramatic end.

With their victory over Summit, Morristown will face defending Public B champion Chatham in the state tournament’s semifinal on Thursday at Mennen Arena.
