Summit Medical Group (SMG), New Jersey’s largest privately held multispecialty medical practice, announces the return of two additional neurosurgeons to its medical team: Ronald P. Benitez, M.D. and Brian D. Beyerl, M.D. Drs. Benitez and Beyerl return to practice in the Spine Center, Bensley Pavilion, at SMG’s 1 Diamond Hill Road campus.
Before joining Summit Medical Group, Dr. Ronald P. Benitez was Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia. His professional expertise includes tumor surgery and surgical and endovascular management of cerebrovascular disease, including skull-based surgery and acoustic neuromas. He is board certified in neurosurgery.
Dr. Benitez earned his bachelor of science at the State University of New York, Binghamton, N.Y. He earned his doctor of medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington. After graduating, he completed his residency in neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, where he was designated Chief Resident. Dr. Benitez completed his fellowship in cerebrovascular surgery and interventional neuroradiology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
Dr. Benitez is the recipient of the Stacy L. Rollins, Jr, Neurosurgery Award and Overlook Medical Center Physician Excellence Award in Critical Care.
Dr. Brian D. Beyerl's expertise includes sterotactic neurosurgery, radiosurgery for brain tumors, general surgery, and spine surgery. He is a member of the CyberKnife® Society and Codirector of the Overlook Medical Center CyberKnife® Program. He is board certified in neurosurgery.
Dr. Beyerl earned his bachelor of science, summa cum laude at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wis. He earned his doctor of medicine at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore. After graduating, he completed his residency in neurosurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, and he completed his residency in general surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Beyerl completed his fellowship in neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School, Cambridge, Mass. Dr. Beyerl is listed in Castle Connolly's "Top Doctors in the New York Metro Area" and Castle Connolly's "America's Top Doctors." He is the recipient of 11 honors and awards, including the National Institute of Neurological and Communication Disorders and Stroke National Research Service Award.
