Summit Mommies to Hold First Luncheon Jan. 29

January 22, 2013 at 6:59 AM

SUMMIT, NJ - A brand new social networking site for mommies in Summit and the surrounding areas, “Summit Mommies,” will have its first Mommy Lunch on Jan. 29 at Vita Organics at noon.

Summit Mommies allows new mommies in the surrounding area to get out of the house and connect with other mommies, according to Stacey Chaleff, who runs the site. The site follows in the footsteps of the largely popular site “Hoboken Mommies.”

After having her own son in February 2012, Chaleff began attending Hoboken Mommies’ events. “I thought, ‘This is a great idea!’” Chaleff said. She reached out to the woman behind Hoboken Mommies and launched Summit
Mommies in December of 2012.

“For myself speaking, being a new mom. I feel like when you’re in your house for a few months taking care of your baby… you need to go outside and meet other moms,” she said.

Chaleff relies on social media to help her get the word out about Summit Mommies, especially about upcoming events. “Using the tools of Facebook and Twitter it helps spread the word,” she said.

She hopes the build Summit Mommies to be a site for all parents to use in order to connect with other parents and to help them raise their children the best way they can. “We eventually want to do something like ‘Daddy-den’ type thing on the webstie to have events with Dads and kids,” Chaleff said.

Mothers who attend the first luncheon can expect to learn how to better prepare their child to read, courtesy of Jenelle Erickson from Lil’ Reading Scientists. They will also discuss healthy choices and child enrichments with Jen Meister from Simple Clean Whole.

Chaleff hopes that the luncheon will provide “a nice, social environment for moms to have an excuse to get out of the house.” There were also be raffles with prizes from Stroller Strides Fitness, Preschool of Rock and Poppy and Posey Photography.

The luncheon costs $25 per person, which includes a lunch from Vita Organics’ menu. All mommies from Summit and the surrounding towns are welcome, but space is limited. Email to RSVP. Pre-pay for this event on PayPal and receive one extra raffle ticket for more chances to win.

Getting a Handle on Thanksgiving

This year, on our National Day of Thanks, I would like to express my gratitude for having hands.

Most of us take our fingers and hands and elbows ...
