SUMMIT, NJ - Student/Partner Alliance (S/PA) has added Anoop George and Jaime De Leon to its Board of Directors. The Summit-based nonprofit supports motivated high school students at private high schools in urban areas of Essex, Hudson and Union counties with tuition assistance and mentoring to increase their chances for college admission and scholarships, and ultimately to lead successful and productive lives.
George has served as a mentor for S/PA since 2014, and is a Senior Client Partner with Toptal, a professional services company supporting enterprises in the strategy, business, and technology space. He holds an M.B.A. from Columbia University and a B.S. in Finance from Penn State University. Anoop lives with his wife and two daughters in Madison.
"I have been involved with S/PA for the past six years and I am now honored to take on a leadership role," said George. "I am excited about the future of S/PA and working alongside the Board to continue having an impact on the lives of high school students in the surrounding communities of northern New Jersey. I look forward to becoming a Board Member, but first and foremost will always be a mentor."
de Leon is the Director of Admissions and Public Relations at Hudson Catholic High School in Jersey City. He has been working in the admissions field for over 20 years, both at the high school and college level, and received his BA from the College of the Holy Cross and a Master’s in Strategic Communications from Seton Hall University. de Leon lives with his wife and daughter in Avenel.
“I'm excited to join S/PA because they have been a strong supporter of Hudson Catholic High School students over the years," said de Leon. "I look forward to collaborating with such an amazing group.”
Emmett Daly, President of the S/PA Board said, “I’m thrilled to welcome Jaime and Anoop to S/PA’s Board. Both are young, energetic and passionate about our mission. They have the skills and personalities to strengthen our efforts immediately.”
The S/PA in-person mentoring program has shifted to a virtual platform, utilizing Zoom for its events. Along with the support of outside consultants, S/PA has successfully run virtual events throughout the fall, including a student orientation, college preparatory information session, a mentor / mentee session on better navigating virtual relationships, and even a virtual game of Pictionary.
