SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit 4th / 5th Grade Youth Football Team is on their way to the New Jersey Suburban Youth Football League (NJSYFL) 'Super Bowl' after defeating Somerset Hills 20-14 to claim the National Conference Title. The boys from the 07901 will face American Conference Champs Old Bridge in the Final, which will be held November 18 in Sparta.
Coached by Mike Vernotico, Nick Curiale, Andre Karelis and Kris Towman, the team had arguably the toughest schedule of any team in the Conference, and ended up having to beat two very strong teams -- Somerset Hills and Scotch Plains -- twice to earn a trip to the 'Super Bowl'. Summit also finished with the best overall Conference Record.
“This is an amazing group of young men,” said Vernotico. “They never give up. We came from behind twice against Somerset Hills to earn the Championship.”
Summit Youth Football is led by Kevin Fagan, who says that safety is the top priority for the program. “We are leaders in safety in youth sports. All of our coaches go through a Safety Training Program established by the League. We teach all new safe blocking and tackling techniques,” he said, adding, “The League we are in is committed to player safety.” Fagan also note that there are certified athletic trainers at every game and every team has a Player Safety Representative.
In addition to the Youth Tackle Program, Summit has a Flag Football Program for youngsters in grades K-5. For ore information, contact Kevin Fagan at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit summithilltopperfootball.com.
