PATERSON, NJ - A shooting at 1:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon was the third on the north side of the city since Friday night.
According to Lt. Patrick Murray, police responded to reports of shots being fired early Sunday afternoon at the corner of 10th Avenue and E. 19th Street and, on arrival, officers located an apparent crime scene, and were informed that the victim was placed in a private vehicle that left the scene.
The victim, a 26-year-old male, arrived at St. Joseph’s Medical Center shortly thereafter with a gunshot wound to the right hand. The victim was one of a group of people standing on E. 19th Street between 9th and 10th avenues when a male approached on foot and began firing, striking the victim.
Ballistic evidence was located at the scene which has been forwarded to the forensics lab for further examination.
"A possible motive for this incident is not clear at this time, and any connection to the prior weekend incidents in the 1st Ward is being looked into at this time" Murray said.
On Friday night, a man was shot in the hand at the corner of Holsman and Piercy streets in the 1st Ward. Early Sunday morning, a 34-year-old man was shot in the abdomen at 3 a.m. at the corner of Temple and N. 6th streets, also in the 1st Ward.
