Sunday Morning Shooting Wounds Man Critically

PATERSON, NJ - A shooting early Sunday morning on Sussex Street left a 22-year-old man in critical condition and injured a young woman, as well.

According to Captain Heriberto Rodriguez, after responding to a report of shots being fired at 3:05 a.m., police found the male victim lying in the driveway of a garden apartment complex at 303 Sussex St. with undisclosed gunshot wounds. The man's companion, a 18-year-old female, also was found on the steps of the apartment building with a gunshot wound to her abdomen.

"It appears there was a physical altercation. At some point during that altercation, multiple shots were fired, striking both the male and female victims," Rodriguez said.

The male is in critical condition at St. Joseph's Medical Center. The female victim was treated for her injuries and released.
