PLAINFIELD, NJ - The fatal shooting that took place in Plainfield Sunday evening is under investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Michael A. Monahan announced on Monday.

The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Benjamin Nord.

Plainfield Police Division patrol units responding to a report of a shooting on the 400 block of Liberty Street found Nord there suffering from gunshot wounds, according to the preliminary investigation.

Nord was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 8:30 p.m.

The matter remains under active joint investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force, Plainfield Police Division, and the Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit.
