I am a former student of Vincent Turturiello, a music educator in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood school district, who is a quarterfinalist for the 2014 Music Educator Award being presented for the second year by the Recording Academy and the Grammy Foundation.
In order to help Mr. Turturiello advance to the next level, the Grammy Foundation needs submissions from his family of as much publicity as possible that can be given to him as the potential recipient of this award. He has taught and influenced thousands of students in his 28 years as an educator in Scotch Plains-Fanwood.
My love of music, and being a member of his concert band, wind ensemble, and marching band, were all inspired and developed because of his constant encouragement and his personal love of music. He always encouraged us to work hard, but whenever we were about to enter into a band competition he always told us to do our best but also to have fun and not to worry about if we won or not. In his eyes, as long as we gave it our all, but also had a good time, the goal was accomplished. And anyone could be a part of marching band - if you couldn't play an instrument due to a disability but could hold the banner - he always found a place for everyone to be a part of the band. Many of my best high school memories are from my time spent in band activities.
So I ask his former students, please spread the word on his nomination. The Grammy Foundation is requesting the submission of as many video testimonials about how he influenced the lives of students and staff members. So we are trying to get the word out far and wide so that everyone has a chance to help promote him to the next level.
Thank you for helping to make a dream come true for a person who truly deserves this honor.
