January 31, 2013 at 12:05 PM

SUMMIT, NJ - Susan Permahos has been named the new director of the Summit Free Public Library, effective Mar. 4, 2013.  The Board of Trustees of the Summit Free Public Library announced the selection this morning.

Permahos has served as the Director of the Springfield Free Public Library for almost 20 years.  During her time in Springfield, she has been part of significant changes in the offering of public library services.  When she began her tenure in Springfield, the library had a single computer that ran on a 5 ¼ inch floppy disk. Today, the library is home to more than 60 computers, an online computer catalog, downloadable music and the Library announces programs through Facebook and Twitter.

In her new position, Permahos hopes to conduct a customer service survey, develop a long range plan, increase programming and exhibits for residents of all ages, increase library communication with the community through the use of social media and become an active member of the Summit community.

The Board of Trustees will introduce Mrs. Permahos to the community at a reception on Thursday, March 7th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the library. The Summit Free Public Library is located at 75 Maple Street.  The telephone number is (908) 273-0350.   Visit the library’s website at www.summitlibrary.org.
