WESTFIELD, NJ — An Essex County man is charged with criminal sexual contact for “inappropriately grabbing” a woman whose vehicle he was attempting to steal, town police said Wednesday.

Quinn Mayweather, 21, of East Orange, is also charged with burglary and attempted theft of a motor vehicle in connection with the incident, which occurred Tuesday afternoon on Mountainview Terrace, police Chief Christopher Battiloro said in a statement.

Police said Mayweather was inside of the vehicle when the owner approached the car and confronted him. The incident happened at 2:41 p.m., police said.

Mountainside police found Mayweather walking along Mountain Avenue in the area of Tanglewood Lane, where Westfield police officers then arrested him, Battiloro said.

Mayweather is being held at the Union County Jail in Elizabeth, pending a detention hearing, Battiloro said.
