Suspect Sought in Two Armed Robberies

MONTCLAIR, NJ - August 19, UPDATE: Suspect in this case has been arrested and charged

Lt. David O'Dowd of the Montclair Police Department reported the following:

On Sunday, at approximately 10:29 p.m., a male victim, 22, from Newark was robbed at gunpoint on Lackawanna Plaza.

The suspect, described as a black male in his 20s, 5’9, thin build, with short black hair, approached the victim with a black cloth covering the lower half of his face.  The suspect was brandishing a silver colored handgun.  The suspect demanded the victim’s money and cell phone. 

The victim turned over his iPhone 5 in a blue case.  The suspect then fled eastbound on foot.  

At 11:44 p.m., a second male, 22, from West Orange reported having been the victim of an armed robbery on Elm Street near Bloomfield Avenue. This victim stated that a suspect, matching the same description as the prior robbery, approached him on Elm street.  The suspect was again brandishing a silver handgun with a bandanna over his mouth. 

The victim advised the suspect that he did not have any money, at which time the suspect punched him in the neck.  The suspect then fled on foot, south on Elm Street. 

The incident remains under investigation.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective J. Schaub at 973-509-4726.
