Suspicious Luring Incident in Scotch Plains

At 8 am this morning, the Berkeley Heights Police Department received the following report:

At approximately 6:55 am this date, a 17 year old female (a student at the Union County Magnet School in Scotch Plains) was approached by a male operating a vehicle while she was waiting for her school bus to arrive on Plainfield Avenue by Liberty Avenue. The suspect stated to the female, "Hey, your bus isn't coming today. Would you like a ride?" The female replied no and the suspect then stated, "Can I have your phone number?", to which she replied no again. The suspect then asked if the female wanted his phone number and when she replied no he drove off southbound on Plainfield Avenue.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male with short dark hair in his mid 30's to early 40's. The vehicle is described as a newer model full sized white van with NY license plates. It is a 2 door van with no sliding door and a circular window on the passenger rear side.
