SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ –The Sussex County officials reported 83 new cases and no additional deaths on January 21.

As of January 21 there were 7,515 cases of COVID-19 in the county, 247 deaths and 4,28 recovered coronavirus patients. Four prior reported positive cases and one death have been reassigned out of the county.

In New Jersey the Rt rate lowered slightly to 1.07 as of January 21. Any number over 1 indicates the virus is spreading. The mortality rate in the state continues to decline as the rate of positive tests is increasing.

State officials announced hospitalizations were 3,395 on Thursday. Of those in the hospital 2,570 are in for medical/surgical reasons, 626 are in intensive care and 427 are on ventilators, 444 people have been discharged on January 21, “deaths excluded.”

New Jersey had an additional 3,968 new coronavirus cases and 96 COVID-19 deaths on January 21, according to the state department of health.

New Jersey Department of Health COVID-19 dashboard reported there have been 18,543deaths and 576,720 confirmed positive coronavirus cases. The mortality rate continued to decline to 3.20% as of January 21. The dashboard said 8,887,397 New Jersey residents been tested as January 20.

Essex County is reporting the highest COVID-19 death toll with 2,237 coronavirus related deaths and the second highest number of positive tests in the state with 55,898 positive test results. 

Bergen County has the highest number of positive tests in the state with 56,223 patients and 2,159 deaths. Middlesex County has the third highest number of cases 55,293 and fourth highest number of deaths, 1,629 from coronavirus.

The New Jersey Department of Health began publishing statistics on vaccines.  As of January21 there have been 455,965 total doses have been administered: 398,862 first doses and 56,821 second doses.  In Sussex County 7,322 doses have been administered.

According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus resource center, the United States currently has 24,552,405 confirmed cases and 408,382 coronavirus deaths, with a mortality rate of 1.66%. As of January 21, New York City continues to report the highest number of coronavirus related deaths with a reported 41,785 New York has also reported 117,882 recovered coronavirus patients.

New Jersey Department of Human Services has launched a hotline for residents who need help coping with stress and anxiety during the health crisis.  The hotline is open from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. seven days a week- 866-202-4357.

St. Joseph’s Health in Paterson is also providing a free helpline for hearing impaired Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 973-870-0677.
