Synchroettes, Essex County Synchronized Skating Team, Performs for Toys for Tots

December 19, 2012 at 7:11 AM

LIVINGSTON, NJ - The Synchroettes, an Essex County synchronized ice skating team, presented a show for Toys for Tots Tuesday night at the Richard J. Codey Arena.

The one hour, 14 act show consisted of female ice skaters of all grade levels including the Junior Team USA which will be representing the USA next month in Sweden at the Leon Lurje Trophey Competition.

The Synchroettes collected toys from all attendees as well as monetary donations to help support the cause. By the end of the night, hundreds of toys were donated.

Member of the board of directors of Synchroettes Inc., Ann Marie Petrocelli, said this charity event is important to the Synchroettes because they like to give back.

“One of our first practices ever was on 9/11/01 and one of our girls actually lost her father, so from that moment on, we have always given back,” Petrocelli said.

She added that the Synchroettes have been presenting charity events for Toys for Tots for 10 years.

“With Junior Team USA representing America, it is only fitting that they be the best they can be all around,” Petrocelli said. “This event itself is special because it’s so important to donate when possible and it also gives the girls an opportunity to be recognized for their hard work and achievement in representing the USA.”

Council member elect Michael Silverman was in attendance due to his daughter’s participation as a Synchroette.

“This event allows the girls’ hard work to be appreciated while helping others in need,” Silverman said.

He added that he was impressed with the turnout in terms of how many toys have been donated.

“The amount of children that we will be helping is incredible,” Silverman said. “It’s important to us as parents that the Synchroettes not only are hard working on the ice, but they are also good people.”

Man vs. Waze

A lot of strange cars are traveling through my quiet neighborhood these days.  They are not driven by my neighbors.  Some mornings I even have trouble getting out of my driveway.

Waze.

Ever since bridge repair closed a major thoroughfare near my house, the traffic on my sleepy street has increased dramatically.  And it is not by accident that commuters have figured out ...
