PATERSON, NJ - Despite the steady rain both candidates in the lone city council race on today’s ballot said activity has been brisk at voting sites across the 6th Ward.

Courting voters just before they entered the polling place at the Southside Branch Library Al Abdelaziz, appointed by his current colleagues to the seat when his predecessor, Andre Sayegh, vacated it to assume the Mayor’s office, said a vote for him on Tuesday was a vote for “continued progress.”

With Councilman Flavio Rivera, and several campaign volunteers at his side Abdelaziz urged voters not to let the rain “stop you from doing your civic duty.”

Just a few minutes away Jeyss Abreu returned to School 25, a post he’s stood in front of on and off throughout the day, saying he felt “great, positive, couldn’t be better,” optimism, it seemed, that was coming from the “good reaction” he has been getting all day.

Both candidates espoused support for their Democratic Party candidates they are sharing ballot space with, with Abdelaziz distributing palm cards showing the entire Row B team and Abreu saying that his supporters also should be voting for “our senator” Bob Menendez if they want to help “stop Trump.”

Polls are open until 8:00 p.m.
