WESTFIELD, NJ — TAPinto Westfield won national recognition as the Local Independent Online News Publishers Solo Publisher of the Year at the annual LION awards ceremony held on Thursday, Oct. 22.
The award recognizes one small publisher in the country who provides excellent coverage of their community over a prolonged period of time. This is the second year for the awards, which were judged by nearly 30 experts in local news from across the industry, including top news industry executives at Google and Facebook.
In awarding TAPinto Westfield top prize as the Solo Publisher of the Year in the United States, the judges said that TAPinto Westfield is a “Solid example of a hyperlocal news organization providing quality journalism to its community while achieving profitability.”
“We're thrilled to receive this recognition,” said Jackie Lieberman, owner and publisher of TAPinto Westfield, who watched the virtual awards ceremony live Thursday night with her family by her side.
“Thanks to the LION Publishers, I’ve gotten to know some of our fellow independent online publishers around the country, and I continue to be amazed at what they are accomplishing," she said.
TAPinto Westfield is a part of the network of more than 80 franchised online local news websites founded by its CEO, Michael Shapiro.
“This national recognition for TAPinto Westfield is a testament to the hard work and dedication of Jackie Lieberman and Matt Kadosh, who have built a local news site that is exemplary for both its local journalism and its financial success and a proven model for others to follow,” Shapiro said.
The 2020 judges are Madeleine Bair, Heather Bryant, Sterling Cosper, Kat Duncan, Rick Edmonds, Patricia Gaston, Rodney Gibbs, Sommer Ingram Dean, Jiquanda Johnson, Damon Kiesow, Yvonne Leow, Frank LoMonte, Ben Monnie, Josh Moore, Meghan Murphy, Alexandra Nicolas, Gonzalo Peon, Aron Pilhofer, Rachel Rohr, Mary Sanchez, Linda Shaw, Mazin Sidahmed, Craig Silverman, Chrissy Towle, Ryan Tuck, Sisi Wei and Yumi Wilson.
Lieberman thanked Managing Editor Matt Kadosh for his excellent work, as well as TAPinto Founder and CEO Mike Shapiro and the entire TAPinto network for making what TAPinto Westfield does possible.
