Congregation B’nai Jeshurun,Short Hills will commemorate the 10th anniversary of September 11,2001 at Erev Shabbat Services on Friday, September 9th at 5:30 pm. Rabbi Matthew D. Gewirtz, author of Gift of Grief will deliver the sermon.
Both Rabbi Matthew D. Gewirtz and Cantor Howard M. Stahl will participate in the Compassion in Action Interfaith Service September 10th at Trinity and St. Phillips Cathedral (608 Broad Street, Newark)at 8 pm. They will be joining other area communal and religious leaders for service.
The High Holy Day observance at TBJ begins with a S’lichot service on Saturday evening, September 24th at 7 pm. In addition to the service which focuses on personal reflection and introspection, the evening will also include a panel discussion, Memory,Reflection & Hope: An Interfaith Conversation on the 10th Anniversary of 9-11. B’nai Jeshurun’s Senior Rabbi Matthew D. Gewirtz will be joined by Imam W. Deen Shareef, Convener of the Council of Imams in New Jersey, and Senior Advisor to Mayor Cory A. Booker in the City of Newark. Also a member of the panel will be The Rt. Rev. Mark Beckwith, Episcopal Bishop of the City of Newark and Father Edward Beck, ABC News Religion Correspondent and Host of Good Morning America’s Focus on Faith. The panel will be moderated by Jon Meacham, Executive Editor at Random House, Former Editor of Newsweek and Editor-at-large of WNET Public Media. This panel is presented in partnership with WNET New York Public Media.
