The Theater Project, Union County's Professional Theater Company, will present "The Audition" for one weekend only, performed by The Theater Project Jr. College for Kids, local youths aged 10-18 who participated in a summer-long Theater Workshop and immersed them in the full theatrical process.
The performances are scheduled for Friday, August 13 and Saturday, August 14 at 8pm, and Sunday, August 15 at 2pm. All tickets are $10 with children under 5 admitted free. Performances will be held in the Roy Smith Theater at Union County College's Cranford Campus, 1633 Springfield Avenue in Cranford.
The young students have been rehearsing "The Audition" by Don Zolidis for seven weeks. The show is a hilarious and heartbreaking look at the madness of auditioning for a high school production of 'A Chorus Line' and the actors who brave the process for that perfect part. In a "Glee"-like twist, the student performers have written and choreographed their own unique second act.
During the seven-week Theater Workshop, students learned acting and vocal techniques, character development, presentation skills, staged makeup, and more. Students also experienced the technical side of theatrical production, including stage management, set design and construction, lighting design, and more. In addition, students learned and participated in the important behind-the-scenes fundraising and marketing side of theater through the selling of tickets and program advertisements, promotion, and more.
The Theater Project Jr. College for Kids Summer Theater Workshop is presented by The Theater Project, Union County College's Professional Theater Company, in conjunction with Union County College's Continuing Education Program.
The Theater Project's exciting 2010 season continues in September with the Regina Taylor musical 'Crowns' and runs September 23 through October 17. For more information, visit www.thetheaterproject.org.
