“The Mohawk House’s notoriety as a venue for great food and entertainment and a performance by the legendary Nerds are sure to make this a memorable night,” said Megan Sandow, chief development officer for the Newton Medical Center Foundation. “We hope this event is the first of many in which we take our vision of empowering our communities to be the healthiest in the nation to new levels of fun and excitement.”

Playing a blend of soul, classic rock, and television themes, The Nerds began playing venues in New Jersey, starting at Lake Hopatcong and then throughout the Jersey Shore during the mid- and late-1980s. Having developed a solid following, the band went on to high-profile performances and appearances such as Carnegie Hall, Good Morning America and the Howard Stern Show. In the fall of 2000, they were asked to host MTV’s Ultimate Cover Band Contest as the house band. They performed throughout the show as six other bands competed in an elimination contest. Throughout their storied career, The Nerds have shared stages with artists such as Maroon 5, The Go-Gos, Sheryl Crow, and Earth, Wind and Fire.

The event is sponsored by Franklin Sussex Automall, Inc. All proceeds will benefit the Newton Medical Center Foundation. For more information, call the Mohawk House at 973-729-6464, or visit

WHEN: Thursday, November 7, 2013; event starts at 7:30pm; band takes the stage at 8:00pm
