MILLBURN, NJ – The Paper Mill Playhouse production of “The Other Josh Cohen” has begun wowing audiences and will continue through March 16.
“The Other Josh Cohen” is an original musical comedy by David Rossmer and Steven Rosen, who also star as the title character, with Rosen as present-day Josh and Rossmer as future-Josh. If it sounds confusing, don’t worry, it’s not. This is a thoroughly contemporary tale about a genuinely nice guy who cannot seem to escape bad luck.
When we meet Josh, he's single and broke and his apartment gets robbed. Then a mysterious check arrives in the mail that could mean his fortunes are changing.
Pop culture references fly, jokes zing and the score rocks. Musical Director Vadim Feichtner leads a band, whose members all double as actors in the show, with some in multiple roles.
There is energy and enthusiasm to spare, and director Ted Sperling has nicely honed the snappy delivery of the quick comic dialogue. It is fair to say that this is a romantic musical comedy for people who do not usually like romantic musical comedy.
“The Other Josh Cohen” will be performed on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m., Thursdays at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8:00pm, Saturdays at 1:30 and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 1:30 and 7 p.m.. Tickets range from $27 to $98 and may be purchased by calling 973.376.4343, or at the Paper Mill Playhouse Box Office at 22 Brookside Drive in Millburn, or online at www.papermill.org.
