The Savvy Parent Arrives in Summit

March 4, 2014 at 11:19 AM

SUMMIT, NJ - The Savvy Parent, offering expectant parents and new families trusted advice on pre- and post-natal care and early childhood development, has arrived in Summit.

Housed in the historic Twin Maples, The Savvy Parent offers classes, as well as private consultations, on a variety of topics including pregnancy and emotional wellness, childbirth, infant care, and breastfeeding.  All services are tailored to meet the unique needs of individual clients.

“Working in a busy pediatric practice, I see firsthand how parents continually seek accurate health information.  Nothing is more important to them than the health and well-being of their new baby,” says Mary Beth Cahill, co-founder and CEO of The Savvy Parent.  “Our goal is to be a trusted resource that empowers parents by offering medically-sound parenting advice that complements the information given by their healthcare providers.”

Providing a continuum of care in conjunction with your local pediatrician, The Savvy Parent offers in-home, group and private consultation services for today’s parents who crave current, personalized advice and support regarding pregnancy, as well as an infant’s first year of growth and development.  Created by an experienced medical and clinical team — parents themselves — The Savvy Parent’s curricula provides reliable, practical, evidence-based solutions, which are then fine-tuned to address the specific challenges each new parent faces.

These parents, many of whom live away from extended family, will find a trusted resource in The Savvy Parent.  “We provide a support system to a generation of new moms, families and parents who not only face challenges that are quite different from what their moms experienced, but often times they are facing these difficulties alone, in a new city, without the built-in network of parents, grandparents and other relatives living  ‘just around the corner’,” says co-founder Dr. Clare Cardo McKegney.  “We offer our clients a comforting place to turn to when they need it the most.”  The Savvy Parent serves clients in Summit, Chatham, New Providence, Berkeley Heights, Westfield, Millburn, Madison, Florham Park and surrounding areas.

Classes for expectant mothers include “Baby Care Essentials,” “Breastfeeding Fundamentals” and “Prepared Childbirth.”  Moms with newborns and infants up to the age of 6 months will benefit from “Baby Set Go,” which provides information and advice on topics such as sleep, nutrition, calming a fussy baby (colic vs. reflux), techniques to bond with baby, infant massage, establishing routines, vaccination schedules, child care decisions and developmental needs.  “Happy Mom, Happy Baby” offers non-judgmental support for a new mom’s emotional wellness.

The Savvy Parent team is comprised of co-founders Mary Beth Cahill, MSN, CPNP-PC, Dr. Clare Cardo McKegney, DNP, APRN, CPNP, and Dawne Hausman, CFO; as well as Lauren Pardo, M.S., LSCW, and Mary Ellen Lloyd, CD, CCE, LPN. Dr. Robert Rubino, MD, FACOG, and Dr. Hemant Kairam, MD, FAAP, serve as clinical advisors to The Savvy Parent.
