Thieves Continue to Target Items Left in Cars in South Orange

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – Police are investigating a rash of vehicle burglaries.

In the latest incidents, a 2010 Volkswagen and 2009 Nissan were broken into while they were parked in separate Charlton Avenue driveways sometime during the overnight hours of May 1. A wallet was stolen from one of the vehicles, and a GPS unit and book bag were taken from the other.

  • A Hartford Court resident reported that someone entered their garage and stole a bicycle sometime between 3 p.m. on May 1 and 4:30 p.m. on May 2. The bike was described as a black trek bike with red pedals. The garage was unlocked at the time of the theft.
     
  • A Page Terrace resident told police that someone took a copper drain pipe from the side of their house sometime between April 27 and May 1.
     
  • Someone gained access to the roof of Temple Oheb Shalom and damaged six solar panels with what appeared to be a rock. No date for the crime was given.
     
  • A Seton Hall University student stated that someone stole her pocketbook from the library at about 5:45 p.m. on May 7. The student said she left the pocketbook unattended while she took a break from studying, and that when she returned it was missing. The pocketbook contained a number of personal items including the victim’s driver’s license and credit cards.
