PLAINFIELD, NJ - Nor’easters notwithstanding, Plainfield glances ahead to July 4th with approval Monday of the annual fireworks display.
Garden State Fireworks, Inc. was the successful bidder for the 2018 show in Cedar Brook Park, promising 20,398 “shells, pieces, shots and effects” with 774 elements in the grand finale. The fireworks include “dancing snakes,” chrysanthemum and peony styles, “color comets,” a “slow duration twinkling gold” effect that sounds a lot better than a long duration of sparkling snowflakes, and enough thunderous booms to make thunder snow sound like a mere stomach rumble.
Garden State's bid was $14,000 for the fireworks display. The company won out over two Pennsylvania firms, one of which bid $30,000. No amount was stated for the second one.
As previously reported, the agenda also contains many other city business items. The regular March 12 City Council meeting begins at 8 p.m. Monday in Municipal Court/Council Chambers at 325 Watchung Ave.
