PARAMUS, N.J. -- Bergen Community College evacuated its three locations in Paramus, Hackensack and Lyndhurst Monday, November 18 following a "nonspecific bomb threat" that was phoned into the Paramus Police Department that afternoon.

The evacuation was lifted after 3 p.m. and served as a precaution, according to Dr. Larry Hlavenka Jr., executive director of Public Relations, Community and Cultural Affairs.

After public safety and local police departments secured each of the campuses, faculty, staff and students returned to the buildings one-by-one at the conclusion of each sweep.

A memo from the two-year college serving more than 30,000 students was sent to faculty, staff and students the following morning expressing their appreciation for their patience displayed during the day's interruption, and thanked public safety and local law enforcement for their swift response.
