Three Lawsuits Included In Full Agenda for Aug. 12 Township Council Meeting

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Three lawsuits against the township will be discussed when the council goes into Executive Session at Tuesday's council meeting held at the Municipal Complex at 29 Park Avenue, Berkeley Heights. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. 

The council has a lot to discuss when they go into Executive Session during this week's council meeting. The topics on the agenda include: negotiations for the acquisition of land, known as the "Land Swap", with Little Flower Church and the three lawsuits involving:

  • Mike Mathis v. Berkeley Heights
  • Tom Foregger v. Berkeley Heights
  • Carol Matula v. Berkeley Heights 

A presentation and discussion about parking and safety on the streets in the vicinity of Gov. Livingston High School is scheduled. This is strictly an initial presentation and no action will be  taken at this time.

In addition, there will be a presentation by Berkeley Heights Developers, LLC regarding 428-434 Springfield Avenue.

A public hearing and final adoption will be voted on for two bond ordinances for improvements to various roads authorizing the issuance of $4,750,000 bonds or notes and various capital improvements authorizing the issuance of $743,000 bonds or notes.

Official action will be taken to authorize and approve:

  • "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over 2014 Statewide Crackdown" effective Aug. 15 through Labor Day.
  • The Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Teamsters Local Union #469 for the Department of Public Works for the period Jan. 1, 2014 to Dec. 31, 2017.

A public hearing will be made regarding provisions amending and updating the Township's Administrative Code for requirements of new hires in the Police Division of the Department of Public Safety.
