PARKLAND, FL- Florida added close to 14,000 new cases and 217 deaths on Thursday. According to the January 10 White House Coronavirus Task Force Report, Florida is in the “red zone” with a “full COVID-19 resurgence.” 

Total people vaccinated to date are 774,768 in Florida and 71,169 in Broward County. Per Governor DeSantis' Executive Order, the vaccine can only be given to long-term care facility residents and staff, persons 65 years of age and older, health care personnel with direct patient contact, and persons deemed to be extremely vulnerable to COVID-19 by hospital providers.

The percent of positive results ranged from 8.63% to 12.98% over the past 2 weeks and was 8.63% on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. The percentage calculated is for people that test positive for the first time and does not include people that had previously tested positive.

Parkland Schools have a total of 59 cases through the latest data on January 2, 2021.

Here are the current COVID-19 numbers according to the Florida Department of Health as of Thursday, January 14, 2021:

Florida: 1,531,192 total confirmed cases, an increase of 13,720 since yesterday. 

Broward County: 155,066 total confirmed cases, an increase of 1,351 since yesterday. 

Parkland: 1,648 total confirmed cases, an increase of 7 since yesterday. 

Coral Springs: 8,413 total confirmed cases, an increase of 68 since yesterday. 

Deaths in Florida related to COVID-19: 23,613 an increase of 217 since yesterday.  

Broward County: 7,788 (5.0%) total hospitalizations with 1,945 (1.3%) deaths due to COVID-19. Deaths increased by 2 since yesterday.  The median age is 39.

Broward County Percent Positive: 7.5% per the latest data on January 13, 2021.

Broward County Hospital Bed Availability: Hospitals have 919 (17.0%) beds available and 79 (15.8%) adult ICU beds available per the latest data on January 14, 2021.

Parkland Schools Total Cases According to the Latest Data Through January 2:

  • Heron Heights Elementary: 5 cases
  • Marjory Stoneman Douglas: 19 cases 
  • Park Trails Elementary: 17 cases
  • Riverglades Elementary: 12 cases
  • Somerset Parkland Academy: 11 cases
  • Westglades Middle School: 10 cases
