WESTFIELD, NJ — A group of nearly 20 interested women gathered at Tiffany Natural Pharmacy in Westfield recently to learn all they could about the HCG Diet, a medically supervised weight loss program that uses a combination of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin hormone (HGC) and a low, 500-calorie-a-day diet. The HCG diet has been in use for over 30 years. Developed by Dr. Simeons, the program also uses the hunger suppressant Adieux and other therapies.
Janet Downing, FNP, MD, who works for the Care Urgent Center/Union County Healthcare Association in Elizabeth, explained, "People on the program feel and look healthier."
HCG Dieters have been known to lose between one to three pounds a day, she told the group.
The HCG diet recognizes three types of body fat, she explained: Structural fat, which fills the gaps between various organs; normal reserve, or fat kept in reserve to be used for potential nutritional deficiency; and bad fat, which cannot be easily accessed by the body and is generally locked away in fixed deposits on the hips, abdomen, butt and chin.
The ideal HCG Diet candidate wants to lose 15 or more pounds, can commit to the diet for 23 to 40 days, is motivated to maintain results, has normal laboratory results, is psychologically healthy and is willing to drink at least two quarts of water or other liquid a day.
Those who cannot participate in the program are women who are pregnant or currently breast-feeding, people suffering gallbladder disease, people who have cancer or any other serious illness such as uncontrolled diabetes and those who are renal compromised.
Tiffany’s can compound the HCG into an oral solution and stocks Adieux. For more information about the HCG Diet, contact Brian Pinto, proprietor and compounding pharmacist at Tiffany Natural Pharmacy, at 908-232-2200. Pinto himself participates in the HCG Diet.
