CARTERET, NJ – The South Plainfield Tigers’ offense churned out 12 hits, and Tiger Katherine Vill turned in another solid pitching performance to lead her team to a 14-3 victory over Carteret. South Plainfield would jump out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, with Caroline Ratti singling to left to score lead-off hitter Caity Hughes. Senior Haley Hlavka reached first on an infield error to score junior Holly DeLair. Senior Shannon Hughes had a sac fly to short right to score Ratti. Meghan Hughes reached first base on an error to score Hlavka to make it 4-0.
In the second inning Naomi Neives singled to right, and then there were two quick outs. Ratti tripled to right center to score Neives. Shannon Hughes then doubled to left.
Carteret scored two runs in the third inning. The runs scored on Allison Aurello's two-run homerun. That was the offensive highlight of the day for Carteret. South Plainfield would score in every inning of the game and bust the game wide open with a seven-run fifth inning to end the game early.
South Plainfield’s offensive stars would be Caroline Ratti, two for three, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Shannon Hughes, two for three, three RBIs and two runs scored. Naomi Nieves two for three with an RBI and two runs scored, and Camrym Schaeffer two for three with an RBI and a run scored.
Freshman Katherine Vill improves her record to 6-2 on the season. The win improves South Plainfield’s record to 7-2 on the season, and Carteret falls to 2-5.
