SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The South Plainfield Tigers Softball Team enters 2014, with a trio of hurlers looking to replace last year’s ace Shannon McMahon. McMahon will not be easy to replace. She was 20-8 last season with 157 K’s and only 10 walks. At the plate she hit .348 with 5 HR’s and 25 RBI’s.
This however is not expected to be a down year. Katherine Vill, Holly DeLair and Caroline Ratti have all racked up innings on the mound in preseason and it is anticipated to continue until someone runs away with the rubber.
Coach Don Panzarella’s had this to say about 2014 “Our goal is to compete for the top spot of the White Division in the GMC and make a run in the state tournament. I feel this team has a great mix of players to be successful and meet all our goals. The graduation of our pitcher Shannon McMahon who led our team to a GMC championship will be hard to replace, however we feel we have the pitchers in our program to get the job done. As in all facets of life, success is achieved with hard work and dedication and this team has all the tools to be successful.”
The Tigers are entering 2014 with a powerful line-up. Junior Caroline Ratti led the Tiger offense as a sophomore batting .427 with 22 RBI’s and 5 doubles. Ratti was 3rd team All State Group #3 and 1st Team All County. Ratti will be returning with SR OF Kaitlyn Hughes .427 batting average, SR C Haley Hlavka .333 average and 27 RBI’s, JR P Holly DeLair .340 batting average 21 RBI’s, 11 doubles and 2 HRs, and sisters SR CF Shannon Hughes and SO SS Meghan Hughes. The Hughes will be joined by their freshman sister Caity Hughes. SR OF Danielle Pisano is also expected to contribute significantly in 2014.
The Tigers are expected to add the following newcomers to their varsity roster. They are: JR Kelly Shea, JR Gina Tartza, So Naomi Nieves, FR Camryn Schaeffer, FR Katherine Vill, and FR Caity Hughes
