MAPLEWOOD/SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — With many summer plans gone, non-profit Civic Story is hosting an online information session for students from midddle school through college.
The meeting is "to show these students all the possibilities of how they can be involved in their community this summer," said Susan Haig, founder of Civic Story. "There are so many ways" older kids and young adults can participate in "solving problems in their community," Haig added.
One option is to be a mentor for younger kids through Passion Projects, an effort of encouragement from k-8 teachers to their students to follow their interests, initiated by South Orange Maplewood School District.
Our newsletter delivers the local news that you can trust.
Other organizations seeking volunteers are CHS Clubs, MAPSO Youth, the South Orange and Maplewood Libraries, the South Orange Environmental Commission, the SOMA Community Coalition on Race, CivicStory and more. They are encouraging local grass-roots efforts to build up our communities together. The ZOOM meeting will be this afternoon, June 30, 4 to 5 p.m.  Meeting ID: 633 503 7083
