SOMERVILLE, NJ  - Chairs are scattered up and down the Division Street pedestrian mall, but few people will be sitting down once CityScape & the Park Avenue Horns kick it in Thursday night, performing a one-hour set as part of the Girls’ Night Out celebration in downtown Somerville.

Polished, sophisticated and eager to entertain, the eight musicians and vocalists in the group are well-established in northern New Jersey and New York City, booked week nights and weekends year ‘round.

They’re not the kind of band people come to listen to, according to Natalie Piniero, executive director of the Downtown Somerville Alliance. Instead, people  “experience” the band, absorb its energy and hit the ground dancing.

The band will take the stage at the southern end of Division Street at 7:45 p.m.

They will be followed at 8:45 p.m. for a performance  by Jimmy Boone and a few of his girlfriends – campy, flamboyant drag queens who will strut their stuff and join in the fun during  Girls Night Out in downtown Somerville.

From sharp stiletto heels to sharp tongues, over-the-top wigs, eye makeup with exacting standards, and stunning wardrobes, the queens are all represented by Boone’s company, Drag Queen Entertainment. Based in south Jersey, they work the circuit performing at theaters, private parties and other venues.

Girls' Night Out in downtown Somerville runs from 5-9 p.m. with plenty of  shopping, dining and entertainment, including a signature beverage crawl.

“From palm readers, to cover bands, and even a drag performance, we have something for everyone at this year’s event,” said Pineiro.
