Marc Shaiman, Tony Award-winning composer and co-lyricist of Hairspray, and a native of Scotch Plains, returned to his high school to coach the cast of SPFHS' Repertory Theatre in preparation for their production of the show in March.

Mr. Shaiman spent two hours with the cast, answering questions about the creation of the show, his career, and his upcoming Broadway musical "Catch Me If You Can," opening in April.

The kids sang three songs from Hairspray for Marc, who pronounced the whole experience "surreal" and "a dream come true."

Tickets for SPFHS Repertory Theatre's Hairspray, running March 11, 12, 13, 17,18 and 19 can be purchased by emailing reptix@verizon.net.
