NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - A tornado watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for several New Jersey counties, including Middlesex.

The warning comes as a powerful storm continues to roar across the tri-state area, carrying potentially damaging winds, heavy rain, the possibility of thunder and the possibility of isolated tornadoes.

The watch, which also covers Monmouth, Somerset, Ocean and Hunterdon counties, will be in effect until 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has also issued a wind advisory for coastal Ocean, Atlantic and Cape May counties in New Jersey, as well as eastern Monmouth County.The advisory is in effect until 6 p.m.

The region could see 1 to 2 inches of rain by Monday night.
