SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame will present special behind-the-scenes tours of Godolphin’s famous Greentree Stable on Saturday, Aug. 18 and Tuesday, Aug. 21. The tours are from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tours cost $15 for Museum members and $20 for non-members. Each attendee will also receive a complimentary admission pass to the Museum. The tours will be given by Godolphin’s Emma Browne and the Museum’s Cate Johnson.
Greentree is the private training facility owned by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates. The magnificent 106-acre property comprises a training track, two stable blocks with accommodation for 96 horses and a 10-bedroom residence featuring colonial architecture of the 19th century with views of the Vermont Green Mountains.
Tours are limited to 75 people and water will be provided. The address is 36 Nelson Avenue, Saratoga Springs. Tour participants should enter the stable gate (there will be an attendant on site to let vehicles through) and use the parking lot located at the end of driveway past the barns on the left side of the dormitory. There will be posted signage. Some walking is involved so sneakers are suggested.
Once the summer residence of John Hay “Jock” Whitney, a former American ambassador to Britain and one of the leading thoroughbred owners and breeders of his time, the property was purchased by Sheikh Mohammed in 2007 as part of a deal in which he acquired Stonerside Stables from technology tycoon Robert McNair.
Reservations are required for these tours and must be made in advance. Call 518-584-0400 ext. 120 to secure your spot.
