BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The township council will need to redo a resolution regarding a redevelopment investigation near TD Bank Ballpark because of a wrongly stated lot and block number.
The council approved, by a 3-2 vote in December, a resolution to refer to the planning board a recommendation for a preliminary investigation for redevelopment at and around TD Bank Ballpark, on East Main Street.
The township council had received a letter from Somerset County regarding the property and some potential redevelopment.
It was mentioned at that meeting that Patriots owner Steve Kalafer has spoken about putting up 200 to 400 residential units in the area. Councilwoman Christine Henderson Rose said at the meeting that a study needs to be performed, that the area might ultimately not be approved for apartments and that the county is exploring all options.
The planning board was expected to discuss it at the reorganization meeting Jan. 8.
According to councilman Howard Norgalis, the representative to the planning board, when the county passed on information to the township regarding the potential redevelopment, they had an old block and lot number. The original advertised lot and block number was Lot 1, Block 7101, but the actual property is Lot 1, Block 347.
When township administrator James Naples got the new information, he found it only included the stadium itself and the parking lots.
“But they want to include the area behind the train station too,” Norgalis said. “There will be a new resolution coming from the council that will correct the issue.”
Norgalis said they should wait for a new resolution with the new lot and block number before referring it for investigation so that all the information is correct.
“The more clarity that comes from the council the better,” said planning board chair Ron Charles.
Once that happens, the planning board can opt to request that planner Scarlett Doyle start doing a preliminary investigation into the potential redevelopment of that area.
