WEST ORANGE, NJ - Eagle Rock Avenue had no sooner been opened to traffic after a mid-afternoon school bus accident when a tree branch fell into some wires located at the intersection of Eagle Rock Avenue and Rainbow Terrace. The wires fell to the ground, ablaze, also setting the transformer on fire.
Police, fire and PSEG were on the scene to close Eagle Rock Avenue off again, put out the fire and begin preparations to repair the transformer. Rush hour traffic was re-routed through the side streets, causing local congestion. PSEG indicated that the situation was under control, but warned local residents that power would be shut off for a short period of time to effect repair.
