NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - On Sunday June 2, 2019, New Providence Boy Scout Troop 63 inducted 4 new Eagle Scouts at the New Providence Presbyterian Church.  Master of Ceremonies, Zach Pereira, moderated the program which included an invocation by Jeff Ebert, Lead Pastor at NPPC.  The four Eagle Scouts inducted were Michael Cardone, Jonathan Lee, Alex Pereira, and Guhan Venkatesan.  

As his Eagle Scout Project, Michael Cardone planned, organized and supervised Scouts from Troop 63 in a project to refurbish the vegetable garden at Community Access Unlimited.  Jonathan Lee’s Eagle Scout project included the designing and constructing of two rolling carts to safely store and transport the New Providence’s Middles School 30 ukuleles and 10 drums.  Alex Pereira’s Eagle Scout project consisted of cleaning, organizing and cataloging over 40 years’ worth of accumulated props for the New Providence High School Drama Department and building a set of shelves to store the props in new bins.  Guhan Venkatesan’s project included planning, organizing and supervising Scouts as they cleaned and sorted two basement storage rooms at the New Providence Memorial Library, constructing shelves for over 400 previoulsy unshelved books and installing wireless security cameras in these unattended rooms.  Additionally, 14 shelf dividers were employed in the Easy Fiction bookshelves for the ease of child browsers.

New Providence Councilman and Troop 63 Committee Chair Rob Muñoz introduced guest speakers Congressman Tom Malinowski and Mayor Al Morgan.  Congressman Malinowski, who was born in Poland, explained that in Poland, Boy Scouts are held in high esteem as they formed one of the first resistance movements during World War II.  The Congressman lauded the Scouts for standing up for what’s right and for not always making the popular decision, but making the right decision.  Mayor Al Morgan congratulated the 4 Eagle Scouts for being examples in their community of what it means to be a volunteer and for giving so much back to New Providence.
